The widget displays a curated selection of news images, ranging from breaking news to stunning photographic features.
Each day, our photo editors pick the best photography from our network of street-journalists. Twenty images from the Demotix collection are displayed at a time, each for a week’s duration.
Design and function
The Demotix Widget delivers ground-breaking imagery with minimal Demotix branding and no links away from your website.
The widget is dynamic, rotating the images in the collection every few seconds. On mouse-over, the caption is displayed along with navigation controls. When clicked, a pop-up window is launched, displaying the full image 650pixels wide without a watermark along with further context.
Delivery
Demotix’ widget is a dynamic flash application, inserted with a simple piece of embed code.
The widget dynamically resizes images without distortion, meaning that its dimensions are not restricted to a set horizontal-vertical ratio and can comfortably fit into any space or design. It is easily scalable to a desired size up to 450px wide. Larger widgets can be provided on request.
Hosting is provided via Demotix on Amazon’s cloud servers. The infrastructure can scale to accommodate unlimited impressions and spikes in traffic.
